Is it possible to reduce or increase the innings break time in ODI?
Yes, the amount of time taken during the break may vary depending on the situation in the match. Ordinarily, there are 45 minutes between innings, but the innings break period in ODI cricket can be reduced in games interrupted by rain. The match officials are entitled to shorten the time to make sure the entire quota of overs is achieved within the allotted time. The break may be reduced by a few minutes in certain instances particularly when the tournament is a tight broadcasting. Nevertheless, it is not extendable unless extraordinary circumstances such as the extreme weather or technical complications. The primary objective of making the timing flexible is to be fair and not to create delays unnecessarily. The teams are being told ahead whether the waiting period will be lesser in order to prepare them to change the recovery routines and hydration plans, as well as the warm-up schedules, before they go back to the field in the second innings.
